  • Theyellowma:

“Most MMA fighters dont mix martial arts at all… They dont even know one, just enough of each to win the game that they play…”

You just don’t have the eye to recognize skill yet. Most C-level mixed martial artists are more skilled than any sensei or instructor you’ve worked out with up until this point in your life.

The more you prattle on, the more your ignorance shows. At this point, I suggest you either shut up or kill yourself.

  • Theyellowma:

When you call yourself a mixed martial artist, it implies that you’ve had a fight. That’s all I was trying to say. I know it’s a broad sounding term, but “mixed martial arts” was coined to describe the type of combat sports ruleset we see in the UFC. It describes the contest, not the training. It doesn’t matter what your personal definition is, because most people will think of cage-fighting when you call yourself a mixed martial artist.

  • Theyellowma:

I don’t know what Taekwondo people call themselves or how they do things. What I’m saying mostly applies to boxing and MMA, because if someone says “I’m a boxer” or “I’m a mixed martial artist” it implies that they’ve had a fight.

Just imagine someone who’s only taken a few boxing lessons, and he starts prancing around bragging that he’s a boxer. People would think that he’s a fighter, so that would be dishonest to say. It would be better to say “I train boxing.”

  • GuamKomudo:

I dont care what you think, I never claimed to be a UFC MMA master, all I said was that I mix martial art styles together to make my own style that suits me best. In the english language, that would mean that I “Mix martial arts” Hence, MMA. Most MMA fighters dont mix martial arts at all… They dont even know one, just enough of each to win the game that they play… Notice the people that win have actually come from a single martial art before, Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, Brock Lesnar.

  • blindronin420:

so by your rational logic, I’m a 3rd dan in tkd but i dont fight in circuits anymore, so im not a true tkd-ist, or a martial artist?

  • blindronin420:

yes he would…shaolin monks…not to mention if you got into the art of martial arts you learning to fight so you never will have to. MMA is just turning martial arts into a mainstream, “i think im the baddest mofo around.” Id rather see ppl learn to just learn.

  • jinofthethunder:

    @KoolJayJ

    bruce lee??

  • Theyellowma:

It’s not just America. A lot of the bullocks we see in the martial arts today originated in and is still being propagated in Japan and other Asian countries where the styles came from. But that’s not what I was talking about.

“I dont need to be on TV to know something… ”

Please get your head out of your ass and try to understand what I was telling you. I’m trying to promote quality control for MMA schools.

  • GuamKomudo:

Thats America… Theres loads of legit Karate schools in Japan and fights in Karate. Shotokan bare knuckel punches to the face… Kyokushin guys are awesome,Jujitsu,Judo, boxing. Japan has moved on, they dont loose tradition, but mix it with modern times. Its Obvious that full contact sparring is a must in fighting, and thats what modern Karate gyms focus on.I dont care if im a official “MMA fighter”I just like to learn everything I can from all styles.I dont need to be on TV to know something…

  • Theyellowma:

So real martial artists would be hiding in the mountains instead of trying to fight the best they could find?

  • mohyooo:

teach one = you teach only one
teach on tv = you teach millions
i dont think they did it for money.

  • KoolJayJ:

true martial artist wont be doing this shit, they wont be parading on tv making millions, they dont care about that shit….. they are probably in remote locations such as moutains in china or jungles training

  • timmygroper:

Correct, there’s LOAD of MMA classes etc popping up but TBH I’d guess a tiny percentage of the instructors have ever fought.

  • Theyellowma:

Don’t take what I said personally. You see, there is a problem with martial arts instructors trying to bank on MMA’s popularity by proclaiming themselves mixed martial artists. The problem is, they are not qualified to teach MMA classes and have never had a fight. Do you see what I mean by this?

By the way, just training at an MMA gym will NOT make you a mixed martial artist. Like I said before, only fighting in MMA will make you a mixed martial artist.

  • GuamKomudo:

Fine know it all… I guess I will never be as cool as you and your rich mma friends… As soon as I have enough money I actually am joining my local MMA gym, but im sure I will be better then the people joining that never did ANY martial arts growing up…
Just cause your not in MMA dosent mean your not a fighter… I grew up with this stuff, im not the best at all… But im not the worst =)

  • Theyellowma:

Cross-training doesn’t make you a mixed martial artist; only competing in MMA makes you a mixed martial artist.

It goes along the same lines as the old boxing philosophy which states that you’re not really a boxer until you have your first bout.

  • DarthYannious:

    Shotokan?

  • truthmasta:

Screw it, this MMA shit is so fake, I will PROVE IT!! I challenge ANY so called MMA “fighter” who is man enough to step up and face me. I’m calling you out you bunch of frauds!!!!!

  • GuamKomudo:

I guess I would call myself a “Mixed martial artist” because iv done Karate as my main style, I did Taekwondo as a game, but learned some useful things, and I am learning Jujitsu. I think, why not make yourself as awesome as you can??? Every style has great things to offer, why close your mind to them. I belive you should have YOUR style, like mine is Karate, but theres always a time and place for a right hook, or a Judo takedown =D
btw MMA always wins under MMA rules lol Its their game

  • DhakaMMA:

sengoku owned by Zuffa?!! omg, if u made this comment in a ahrdcore MMA forum, u would win “most retarded comment of the year” award.
and the only reason UFC got those fighters becuz PRIDE went outta business and UFC took advantage of that. DREAM and Sengoku werent even created at that moment, or else we’d all be seeing them here. Fighters like Henderson and Arlovski whose contract expired have already left UFC, and others are following.

  • Schatje79:

Assuming this is true and those techniques share an exclusive origin to those styles, how does that relate to master/purist of a singular style vs an equally skilled fighter in mixed-martial arts?

  • GuamKomudo:

Yeah, although I love my boy Lyoto Machida! Showing the meat head “Martial artists” what real Karate looks like. Im sick of these “MMA VS Karate” videos, where the Karate guy dosent know anything lol
Thank God for Lyoto Machida =D
But yeah UFC is over rated lol I bet theres some guy in the jungles of ThaiLand that can beat the crap out of all of them lol

  • GuamKomudo:

Well techniqually all the fighters in the UFC use the crane style every time they throw a kick =)
And tiger everytime they throw a hook or upper cut type of hit =D

  • seryph88:

Just wanted to say you seem biased. For one, pride fc is owned by ufc (technically zuffa), so is sengoku. Most of the top fighters from other organizations end up in ufc (Silva, Filipovic, Jackson, Machida, Rua). Some do great like rampage, others like filipovic don’t. So far no one coming from another organization has ran the table in the ufc except anderson silva. If you look at many of the orgs. you listed, their champs have been beat in the ufc. But a great fighter can be anywhere.

  • hardpunk10101:

    correct! you’re so right!!
UFC is so damn overated and commercialised, they’re even opening up “UFC gyms” for mma tryhards. i hate it how kids go out there and say “im on my way to UFC training” instead of “mma training”
